PIA Fires 760 Workers For Fake Degrees

The Ministry of Aviation has informed the Senate that so far 760 employees of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) have been sacked on the basis of fake qualifications.

This question was raised by Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq of Jamaat-e-Islami. In a written reply to his inquiry, ministerial officials said departmental action had been taken against 127 other PIA employees, 87 of whom were hiding behind court orders.

During question time, Senator Mian Atiq asked Sheikh why the government was not taking action against hundreds of illegally occupied government residences in Islamabad.

In response to this question, the Ministry of Housing and Labor replied to the House of Lords that 17,327 government houses were legally allotted in Islamabad. A total of 169 houses were illegally occupied when the present government came to power, of which 42 have been evicted so far.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Babar Awan told the Senate that the government was extending coverage of cellular services to areas where they were not currently available.
